Non-Credit Societies
‘Primary Society’ means a society which does not enrol societies as its members;
Kangra Primary Cooperative Agricultural and Rural Development Bank Dharamshala.
This Bank was established in the year 1966 as ‘Kangra Primary Cooperative Land Mortgage Bank Ltd. at the time of re-organisation of the erstwhile State of Punjab. Now this bank is known as Kangra Primary Agriculture and Rural Development Bank and is functioning in three districts i.e, Kangra, Hamirpur and Una through its 16 Branch offices. It is the only Primary Agriculture and Rural Development bank in the State of Himachal Pradesh working as a federal affiliated unit of the H.P. State Cooperative Agriculture & Rural Development Bank Ltd. Shimla. This Bank is providing medium and long term financial assistance for agriculture and allied activities in its area of operation. It is also providing loans under Non-Farm Sector for setting up cottage and tiny village industries, transport vehicles covering both passengers and goods carriers and also rural housing schemes. The activities of the Bank has generated employment to the rural un-employed persons and has improved their economic status.
Urban Cooperative Banks
There are five Urban Cooperative Banks catering to the credit needs of their members in the urban areas of the State. They are namely (i) The Shimla Urban Cooperative Bank Ltd. Shimla (ii) The Bhagat Urban Coop. Bank Ltd. Solan (iii) The Parwanoo Urban Coop. Bank Ltd. Parwanoo (iv) The Mandi Urban Coop. Bank Mandi Ltd., and (v) The Chamba Urban Coop. Bank Ltd. Chamba. These Banks provides short-term and medium term loan to its members at reasonable interest rates for various purposes.

Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS)
Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) are playing a crucial rule in improving the economic and social conditions of the common masses of the State. They provide short term and medium term loan to the members/farmers at reasonable interest rates to meet their various needs. These societies are also engaged in distribution of controlled/non-controlled consumer goods under Public Distribution System and Fertilizer to the common masses of the State. PACS are supporting the farmers of the State in marketing their agriculture produce. They are providing credit to the farmers for agriculture purposes at cheap and easy terms. Thus, these societies are playing an important role in development of agriculture sector and upliftment of farmers of the State.
